Repeatability

Also known as: Reproduzierbarkeit, reproducibility, traceability

The requirement that another examiner, given the same data and the same documented steps, arrives at the same result.

Repeatability separates forensic analysis from conjecture. It demands documented tools with version numbers, logged working steps and untouched source data. The European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Cooperation (incl. EC3) (Europol) report makes it the test for the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI): a result whose derivation nobody can follow is not usable even if it is statistically correct. The same logic applies in an internal control system – a control without a traceable record does not exist for the auditor.
