Admissibility
Also known as: Gerichtsverwertbarkeit, evidential value
The suitability of evidence to be considered in court or administrative proceedings – depending on lawful collection, an intact chain of custody and a traceable analysis.
Admissibility is decided not in the lab but beforehand: was access permitted, was the data preserved unaltered, is every step documented, can a third party check the result. The European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Cooperation (incl. EC3) (Europol) report points to cases dismissed because outputs of commercial tools could not be correctly interpreted or substantiated. The same applies to companies facing insurers, regulators and labour courts.
