Expert report
Also known as: Sachverständigengutachten, expert testimony, forensic report
A written account of method, findings and conclusions of a forensic examination, understandable to non-specialists and defensible in court by its author.
The report is the product of forensics. It separates observation from assessment, names tools and versions, lays the chain of custody open and states uncertainties. A good report lets management, counsel and insurer make decisions without understanding the technology – and withstands cross-examination.
