KI is the German term for artificial intelligence (AI) — methods by which machines take on tasks that previously required human judgement. In cybersecurity, AI is tool and threat at once. Beyond the technology, the regulatory classification is gaining importance in Europe.
History & facts. While the technical side is described under Artificial Intelligence (AI), the European perspective deserves its own attention: with the European Union (EU) AI Act (applicable in stages from 2025), the EU created for the first time a risk-based legal framework that classifies AI systems by their hazard potential and provides obligations for certain high-risk applications. Also relevant for cybersecurity: AI accelerates both defence (anomaly detection, triage relief) and attack (more convincing deception, faster vulnerability discovery).
Outlook & recommendation. Anyone deploying Artificial Intelligence (AI) in a security context should separate two things: the real benefit as a lever for skilled teams and the exaggerated expectation that AI replaces fundamentals.
