ISO/IEC 27042

Also known as: evidence analysis guideline

International standard giving guidelines for the analysis and interpretation of digital evidence, including requirements on competence, choice of method and documentation.

Where ISO/IEC 27037 governs acquisition, 27042 covers the analytical step: traceable methods, validation, handling of uncertainty, form of report. Together with ISO/IEC 27041 (assurance of methods) and 27043 (investigation process) it forms the framework forensic providers should be able to cite.
