Priority (0–325)
The priority score is a consolidated metric that condenses several individual signals into a single, action-guiding ranking: technical severity (CVSS), exploitation likelihood (EPSS), known-exploited status (KEV) and the context of the affected asset. The aim is to answer the only truly important question in vulnerability management: what first?
Read in glossary- 247.42 Methodology
Exploit maturity
An exploit is code or a technique that specifically uses a concrete vulnerability to force unintended behaviour — such as executing code or escalating privileges. It is the tool that turns a theoretical flaw into a practical attack.

XIEM Effective CVSS
XIEM® is the tiered managed-security operating model from NEOSEC and a registered trademark of NEOSEC GmbH. It extends classic SIEM — the central collection, normalisation and correlation of security-relevant events — with endpoint forensics, network visibility and deception technology, and consolidates them into three building tiers: Sentry, Orchestrate and Command.
Read in glossary- 10.0 Methodology
CVSS v3
CVSS is the globally established, open standard for assessing the technical severity of a vulnerability on a scale from 0 to 10. It describes how easily a flaw can be exploited and what damage it can cause — but not how likely its actual exploitation is. CVSS and the complementary EPSS deliberately answer different questions.
Read in glossary- 10.0
EPSS score
The EPSS score is the absolute model output for an individual vulnerability: the estimated probability of real-world exploitation within the next 30 days, expressed as a value between 0 and 1 (i.e. 0 % to 100 %). A score of 0.42 means „the model estimates a 42 % chance of real-world exploitation within 30 days“.
Read in glossary- 90.0 %
- High — model estimates ≥ 50% chance of real-world exploitation within 30 days.
EPSS percentile
The EPSS percentile is the relative position of a vulnerability within all EPSS-scored CVEs, expressed as a value between 0 and 1. A percentile of 0.90 means „this CVE has a higher EPSS score than 90 % of all other scored CVEs“. Unlike the EPSS score, it is not a probability — but a positioning within a ranking.
Read in glossary- 99.79
- Critical — this CVE ranks in the top fifth of all CVEs scored today (rank ≥ 80%).
KEV status
The KEV catalogue is a list maintained by the US authority CISA of vulnerabilities for which active exploitation in the wild has been confirmed. It answers not the question „how severe?“ but „is it already being attacked?“ — thereby sharply prioritising patching.

Response and mitigation
Why act now?
Prioritisation rationale
The flaw is network-reachable without authentication or user interaction, has changed scope, and yields command execution on the central gateway or NVR — the device enforcing segmentation, VPN and video surveillance. Exploitation likelihood is very high, placing it among the CVEs most likely to be exploited. CISA does not flag known ransomware use, but edge devices like these are routinely abused for initial access, proxy infrastructure or botnet enrolment, particularly at SMEs, branch offices and industrial sites. Treat devices with a WAN-exposed management interface as critical and patch within hours; internally reachable devices are high priority, to be patched within 24–72 h with tightened segmentation in the meantime.
Runbook step 1
Immediate response (0-24 h)
- Update firmware: Upgrade every affected UniFi OS device (EFG, ENVR, ENVR-Core, Express 7, UCG-Fiber, UCG-Industrial, UCG-Max, UCG-Ultra) to UniFi OS 5.1.12 (the patched release per the context) or later. Cross-check other UniFi OS platforms (UDM, UNVR, UCK families) against the Ubiquiti Security Advisory Bulletin. Trigger updates manually rather than waiting for auto-update, and record the version per device.
- Build an inventory: Use Site Manager/controller views plus a network scan (HTTPS banner/certificate "UniFi OS") to find every UniFi OS instance, including branch offices, OT sites (UCG-Industrial) and shadow IT.
- Cut exposure now: The management UI (typically TCP 443) and SSH (TCP 22) must not be reachable from the internet or from guest, IoT or client VLANs. Prefer cloud/Site Manager remote access over direct WAN exposure, and remove any port forwards pointing at the management interface.
- Check for compromise before patching: Capture device state (backup, system logs, admin account list, firewall/NAT rules, VPN config) before the upgrade overwrites evidence. Look for unknown admins, new port forwards, VPN peers or altered DNS settings.
- Rotate secrets: After patching, rotate local admin passwords, SSH credentials, VPN PSKs, RADIUS secrets and Wi-Fi PSKs stored on the device. A root-level compromise of the gateway exposes all of them.
- If compromise is indicated: Isolate the device, factory-reset it, flash the patched firmware fresh, and restore configuration manually or from a verified-clean backup.
Runbook step 2
Mitigation layers
- Network segmentation: Move UniFi OS management interfaces into a dedicated management VLAN, with ACLs allowing only admin jump hosts (e.g.
permit tcp <jump-host> -> <unifi-mgmt>:443,22, otherwisedeny). Restrict gateway management to that VLAN. - Perimeter/IPS: Block inbound WAN traffic to gateway management ports. On upstream Suricata/Snort, alert on HTTP requests to UniFi OS hosts carrying shell metacharacters in parameters or body (
;,|,`,$(,%3B,%7C,%24%28). Enable vendor signatures (ET/Talos) for CVE-2026-34910 as soon as they ship. - Egress control: Restrict traffic originating from the gateway itself to required destinations (Ubiquiti cloud, NTP, DNS, update servers). Unexpected gateway-initiated connections, such as reverse shells or payload fetches, are a high-fidelity signal.
- Hardening/configuration: Disable SSH unless operationally required, turn off UPnP and WAN-side remote management, and enforce MFA on UI accounts used for administration.
- IAM/least privilege: Keep the number of admin accounts to a minimum, use role-based access (view-only where possible), and vault the break-glass local accounts.
- Logging: Enable remote syslog/SIEM integration (CEF) to a central collector so evidence doesn't live only on a potentially compromised box.
- Network segmentation: Move UniFi OS management interfaces into a dedicated management VLAN, with ACLs allowing only admin jump hosts (e.g.
Runbook step 3
Detection rules
- Web/proxy logs: Requests to UniFi OS management IPs containing shell metacharacters or command fragments, e.g. SPL:
index=proxy dest_ip IN (<unifi_mgmt>) | regex uri_query="(%3B|%7C|%60|\$\(|%24%28|wget|curl|/bin/sh|busybox)". Prioritise requests from unusual source networks. - Network telemetry (Zeek/Suricata/NetFlow): New outbound connections from the gateway to external IPs outside the Ubiquiti/NTP/DNS allowlist, especially to odd ports (4444, 1337, high ports) or long-lived sessions. Sigma shape:
src_ip|in: unifi_gateways AND dst_ip|not_in: allowlist AND direction: outbound. - Device syslog:
sh -c,wget,curl,nc,busyboxorchmod +xin/tmpspawned by the web/API process. Also watch for new cron entries,authorized_keyschanges and unexpected service restarts. - UniFi audit/system events: New admin accounts, SSH enabled, new port-forward or firewall rules, new VPN clients, or DNS/DHCP changes outside change windows. Correlate them against change tickets.
- Lateral movement: Internal scanning or SMB/RDP/SSH attempts sourced from the gateway's LAN IP (Zeek
conn.log, firewall logs). This behaviour is abnormal for a gateway.
- Web/proxy logs: Requests to UniFi OS management IPs containing shell metacharacters or command fragments, e.g. SPL:

Classification under NIS2 and CRA
Rule-based classification from exploitation status and severity. It does not replace a case-by-case assessment.
NIS2
NIS2 is EU Directive (EU) 2022/2555 to raise the level of cybersecurity across the Union. It substantially broadens obligations compared with the first NIS directive: more sectors, mandatory risk management, staged reporting duties and personal accountability of senior management.
Read in glossary- Actively exploited: treat the vulnerability as a priority in vulnerability handling under Art. 21(2)(e) NIS2. If it is exploited in your environment, check the reporting obligation under Art. 23 (early warning within 24 hours).
CRA
The CRA is EU Regulation (EU) 2024/2847 setting horizontal cybersecurity requirements for „products with digital elements“ — from industrial controllers and software to connected consumer devices. For the first time manufacturers must ensure security across the entire product lifecycle, handle vulnerabilities and provide security updates.
Read in glossary- Since 11.09.2026, manufacturers of affected products with digital elements must report actively exploited vulnerabilities under Art. 14 CRA, with an early warning within 24 hours via ENISA's single reporting platform.
ISO/IEC 27001
ISO/IEC 27001 is the internationally leading standard for an information security management system (ISMS). It describes a risk-based, process-oriented framework to systematically plan, implement, review and improve information security.
