    Priority (0–325)

The priority score is a consolidated metric that condenses several individual signals into a single, action-guiding ranking: technical severity (CVSS), exploitation likelihood (EPSS), known-exploited status (KEV) and the context of the affected asset. The aim is to answer the only truly important question in vulnerability management: what first?

    Exploit maturity

An exploit is code or a technique that specifically uses a concrete vulnerability to force unintended behaviour — such as executing code or escalating privileges. It is the tool that turns a theoretical flaw into a practical attack.

    XIEM Effective CVSS

XIEM® is the tiered managed-security operating model from NEOSEC and a registered trademark of NEOSEC GmbH. It extends classic SIEM — the central collection, normalisation and correlation of security-relevant events — with endpoint forensics, network visibility and deception technology, and consolidates them into three building tiers: Sentry, Orchestrate and Command.

    10.0 Methodology
    CVSS v3

CVSS is the globally established, open standard for assessing the technical severity of a vulnerability on a scale from 0 to 10. It describes how easily a flaw can be exploited and what damage it can cause — but not how likely its actual exploitation is. CVSS and the complementary EPSS deliberately answer different questions.

    10.0
    EPSS score

The EPSS score is the absolute model output for an individual vulnerability: the estimated probability of real-world exploitation within the next 30 days, expressed as a value between 0 and 1 (i.e. 0 % to 100 %). A score of 0.42 means „the model estimates a 42 % chance of real-world exploitation within 30 days“.

    Read in glossary
    99.91 %
High — model estimates ≥ 50% chance of real-world exploitation within 30 days.
    EPSS percentile

The EPSS percentile is the relative position of a vulnerability within all EPSS-scored CVEs, expressed as a value between 0 and 1. A percentile of 0.90 means „this CVE has a higher EPSS score than 90 % of all other scored CVEs“. Unlike the EPSS score, it is not a probability — but a positioning within a ranking.

    99.97
Critical — this CVE ranks in the top fifth of all CVEs scored today (rank ≥ 80%).
    KEV status

The KEV catalogue is a list maintained by the US authority CISA of vulnerabilities for which active exploitation in the wild has been confirmed. It answers not the question „how severe?“ but „is it already being attacked?“ — thereby sharply prioritising patching.

    Response and mitigation

    Why act now?

    Prioritisation rationale

This CVE is on KEV because it delivers unauthenticated, network-reachable, root-level RCE on an appliance that by design sits at the boundary between the internet and the internal mobile and identity stack. The CVSS vector describes the full worst case (network, no auth, no user interaction, scope change, total CIA impact), and the exploitation likelihood is among the highest observed anywhere. Typical targets are organisations running externally exposed Sentry instances in the unmanaged state; attackers routinely use MDM appliances as a pivot into the mobile fleet, AD credentials, and VPN configurations. Score your exposure strictly by "is the vulnerable port reachable from the internet?" — if yes, treat as P1 with immediate isolation; if only internal and mTLS-protected, still P2 with a patch SLA under 72 hours.

    1. Runbook step 1

      Immediate response (0-24 h)

      • Patch now: upgrade Ivanti Sentry to R10.5.2, R10.6.2, or R10.7.1 per the Ivanti security advisory, including the required appliance reboot. All standalone Sentry builds up to and including 10.7.0 are affected.
      • Pull the appliance off the public internet: restrict the MICS admin portal (TCP/8443) and Sentry service ports (typically TCP/443, 9090) at the perimeter firewall or reverse proxy to known admin source IPs. Do not accept internet exposure until the patch is verified.
      • Compensating configuration: return Sentry to a managed state with EPMM over mTLS, or lock down access via Neurons for MDM — CISA explicitly calls these configurations non-exploitable.
      • Compromise assessment before patching: inspect /var/log/tomcat2/, /var/log/mifs/, and root/tomcat shell history for command-injection traces before rebooting. On any indication, take a forensic image, rebuild clean, and do not restore configuration from an unknown-trust backup.
      • Rotate secrets: EPMM shared secrets, API tokens, certificates, and any AD service accounts stored on the Sentry appliance should be treated as exfiltrated and replaced.
      • Open an incident ticket referencing CVE-2026-10520 and evaluate NIS2 reporting obligations — internet-reachable unauthenticated RCE infrastructure typically crosses the significant-incident threshold.
    2. Runbook step 2

      Mitigation layers

      • Network segmentation: place the Sentry appliance in a dedicated management VLAN; permit inbound only from EPMM/MDM peers over mTLS; default-deny egress with an allowlist for Ivanti update endpoints and NTP.
      • Reverse proxy / WAF in front: block requests containing shell metacharacters (;, |, `, $(, %0a) in query strings and headers, especially targeting /mics/ and /sentry/ paths. Load vendor or ET Open Snort/Suricata signatures for CVE-2026-10520 and enable them in blocking mode.
      • Admin interface hardening: expose the MICS admin portal (8443) only via VPN or bastion; enforce MFA at the jump host and keep session timeouts short.
      • Egress control: block outbound connections from Sentry to non-Ivanti destinations (pastebins, Tor, generic VPS ranges) at the firewall — RCE payloads routinely stage second-stage tooling.
      • Least privilege for integrations: trim the AD accounts Sentry uses to the minimum required rights; never domain admin.
      • Immutable offline configuration backup taken before patching, so rollback does not reinstate a compromised state.
    3. Runbook step 3

      Detection rules

      • Process ancestry on the appliance: tomcat/java spawning /bin/sh, /bin/bash, curl, wget, python, perl, or nc is a strong indicator. Sigma shape: parent_image endswith 'java' AND image in ('/bin/sh','/bin/bash','/usr/bin/curl','/usr/bin/wget').
      • Access-log patterns: HTTP requests to /mics/* or Sentry endpoints containing URL-encoded shell metacharacters (%3B, %7C, %60, %24%28) or unusually long query strings. KQL shape: WebLogs | where url_path startswith "/mics/" and (url_query matches regex "%3[bB]|%7[cC]|%60|%24%28").
      • Auditd on the appliance: execve events with arguments whoami, id, uname -a, cat /etc/shadow, chmod +x /tmp/* from UID tomcat/mifs. Alert whenever the Tomcat user launches binaries outside its baseline path.
      • Network telemetry (Zeek): new outbound connections from the Sentry IP to external hosts on ports 4444, 1337, 8080, 9001 or to known C2 infrastructure; DNS lookups against OAST services (interact.sh, oast.pro, burpcollaborator).
      • Filesystem integrity: new executable files under /tmp, /dev/shm, /var/tmp; modifications to authorized_keys, crontab, /etc/passwd. Run an EDR or osquery scheduled check against a known-good hash baseline.

    Classification under NIS2 and CRA

Rule-based classification from exploitation status and severity. It does not replace a case-by-case assessment.

    NIS2

NIS2 is EU Directive (EU) 2022/2555 to raise the level of cybersecurity across the Union. It substantially broadens obligations compared with the first NIS directive: more sectors, mandatory risk management, staged reporting duties and personal accountability of senior management.

    Read in glossary
Actively exploited: treat the vulnerability as a priority in vulnerability handling under Art. 21(2)(e) NIS2. If it is exploited in your environment, check the reporting obligation under Art. 23 (early warning within 24 hours).
    CRA

The CRA is EU Regulation (EU) 2024/2847 setting horizontal cybersecurity requirements for „products with digital elements“ — from industrial controllers and software to connected consumer devices. For the first time manufacturers must ensure security across the entire product lifecycle, handle vulnerabilities and provide security updates.
