MITRE is a United States of America (US) not-for-profit organisation that operates federally funded research and development centres. For the security community it maintains central catalogues: Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVE), Common Weakness Enumeration (CWE), Common Attack Pattern Enumeration and Classification (CAPEC) and Adversarial Tactics, Techniques & Common Knowledge (ATT&CK). Many of the identifiers used worldwide to name vulnerabilities and attack techniques therefore come from a single source.
