Priority (0–325)
The priority score is a consolidated metric that condenses several individual signals into a single, action-guiding ranking: technical severity (CVSS), exploitation likelihood (EPSS), known-exploited status (KEV) and the context of the affected asset. The aim is to answer the only truly important question in vulnerability management: what first?
Read in glossary- 243.45 Methodology
Exploit maturity
An exploit is code or a technique that specifically uses a concrete vulnerability to force unintended behaviour — such as executing code or escalating privileges. It is the tool that turns a theoretical flaw into a practical attack.
Read in glossary- actively exploitedSource: VulnCheck KEV (opens in a new tab), ANSSI / CERT-FR, NCSC NZ How we classify
XIEM Effective CVSS
XIEM® is the tiered managed-security operating model from NEOSEC and a registered trademark of NEOSEC GmbH. It extends classic SIEM — the central collection, normalisation and correlation of security-relevant events — with endpoint forensics, network visibility and deception technology, and consolidates them into three building tiers: Sentry, Orchestrate and Command.
Read in glossary- 9.8 Methodology
CVSS v3
CVSS is the globally established, open standard for assessing the technical severity of a vulnerability on a scale from 0 to 10. It describes how easily a flaw can be exploited and what damage it can cause — but not how likely its actual exploitation is. CVSS and the complementary EPSS deliberately answer different questions.
Read in glossary- 9.8
EPSS score
The EPSS score is the absolute model output for an individual vulnerability: the estimated probability of real-world exploitation within the next 30 days, expressed as a value between 0 and 1 (i.e. 0 % to 100 %). A score of 0.42 means „the model estimates a 42 % chance of real-world exploitation within 30 days“.
Read in glossary- 10.7 %
- Elevated — model estimates 10-50% exploitation likelihood.
EPSS percentile
The EPSS percentile is the relative position of a vulnerability within all EPSS-scored CVEs, expressed as a value between 0 and 1. A percentile of 0.90 means „this CVE has a higher EPSS score than 90 % of all other scored CVEs“. Unlike the EPSS score, it is not a probability — but a positioning within a ranking.
Read in glossary- 95.8
- Critical — this CVE ranks in the top fifth of all CVEs scored today (rank ≥ 80%).
KEV status
The KEV catalogue is a list maintained by the US authority CISA of vulnerabilities for which active exploitation in the wild has been confirmed. It answers not the question „how severe?“ but „is it already being attacked?“ — thereby sharply prioritising patching.

Response and mitigation
Why act now?
Prioritisation rationale
This chain gives a remote, unauthenticated attacker SQL injection leading to code execution on the web server, with no user interaction. It sits in WordPress core, so every site on the affected branches is exposed regardless of plugins. Exploitation likelihood is high. Internet-wide WordPress scanning is routine, and opportunistic actors use footholds like this for webshells, SEO spam, card skimmers and credential harvesting. CISA does not currently flag ransomware use. A compromised web server is still a classic pivot point, especially when it can reach internal databases or SSO. Treat internet-facing unpatched instances as critical, with a 24-hour remediation target. Internal or WAF/allowlist-protected sites can follow in the next maintenance window, within a few days at most. Assess any confirmed compromise for NIS2 incident-reporting obligations.
Runbook step 1
Immediate response (0-24 h)
- Inventory: Enumerate every WordPress instance, including marketing microsites, staging, agency-hosted sites and multisite networks. Check the version via
wp core version, thegeneratormeta tag or/wp-includes/version.php. Vulnerable: 6.9.x before 6.9.5 and 7.0.x before 7.0.2. - Patch: Upgrade to WordPress 6.9.5 or 7.0.2 (
wp core update --minororwp core update --version=7.0.2). Check whether minor background updates have been disabled (WP_AUTO_UPDATE_CORE,automatic_updater_disabled) and re-enable them where appropriate. - Close the chain: Confirm in the vendor advisory that the installed release also fixes the chained SQL injection CVE-2026-60137 (
author__not_ininWP_Query). The two flaws are exploited together. - Interim block until patched: Block unauthenticated access to the REST batch endpoint at the reverse proxy or WAF. This covers
/wp-json/batch/v1and the query-string form?rest_route=/batch/v1, including URL-encoded variants. - Compromise check on exposed, unpatched hosts: Look for new administrator accounts in
wp_users/wp_usermeta. Check for unknown PHP files inwp-content/uploadsandwp-content/mu-plugins, and for tampering withwp_options(siteurl,active_plugins). If you find anything, isolate the host and preserve evidence. - Rotate secrets if compromise is suspected: Change the DB password and regenerate salts (
wp config shuffle-salts). Reset all admin passwords and Application Passwords.
- Inventory: Enumerate every WordPress instance, including marketing microsites, staging, agency-hosted sites and multisite networks. Check the version via
Runbook step 2
Mitigation layers
- WAF/IPS: Add a rule for POSTs to
batch/v1whoserequests[]entries target internal routes or carryauthor__not_in,author_excludeor SQL tokens (UNION,SELECT,SLEEP(,0x,--). Raise OWASP CRS paranoia to level 2 on/wp-json/so the 942xxx SQLi rules fire. - Application config: If the batch endpoint is not needed, drop it via a must-use plugin:
add_filter('rest_endpoints', function($e){ unset($e['/batch/v1']); return $e; });. Alternatively, restrict anonymous REST access throughrest_authentication_errors. Test the block editor and plugins first, since some rely on the endpoint. - Database least privilege: Grant the WordPress DB user rights on its own schema only. Do not grant
FILE,SUPERorPROCESS, and setsecure_file_priv. This makes the step from SQLi to file write or RCE much harder. - Host hardening: Set
DISALLOW_FILE_EDITand, where feasible,DISALLOW_FILE_MODStotrue. Deny PHP execution inwp-content/uploadsat the web server. Addexec,system,passthru,shell_execandproc_opentodisable_functions. - Segmentation: Place WordPress hosts in a DMZ and restrict web-server egress to update servers and required APIs. Make the DB server reachable only from the web tier.
- Reduce exposure: Put
/wp-json/and/wp-admin/behind an IP allowlist or an SSO proxy for internal or editor-only sites.
- WAF/IPS: Add a rule for POSTs to
Runbook step 3
Detection rules
- Web access logs: Watch for unauthenticated POST bursts to the batch endpoint. SPL example:
index=web (uri_path="*/wp-json/batch/v1*" OR uri_query="*rest_route=*batch*") http_method=POST | stats count by src_ip, status. Also alert on requests containingauthor__not_inorauthor_excludealongside SQL fragments, including URL-encoded ones. - DB and PHP error logs: Spikes of MySQL syntax errors (
You have an error in your SQL syntax) or slow-query entries that correlate with batch requests indicate time-based blind SQLi. - EDR/Sysmon or auditd: Flag process chains such as
php-fpm/apache2/httpd→sh/bash→curl/wget/python/nc. On Linux, use an auditd rule onexecvewhere the parent runs as the web user (uid=www-data). On Windows IIS, look for Sysmon EID 1 withParentImagephp-cgi.exespawningcmd.exeorpowershell.exe. - File integrity: Alert on new
.phpfiles inuploads/,mu-plugins/or the webroot via Sysmon EID 11, auditd-w /var/www -p waor FIM. Sigma shape:logsource: linux/file_event; selection: TargetFilename|contains: '/wp-content/uploads/' AND TargetFilename|endswith: '.php'. - Application layer: Detect new
administratorusers outside change windows (wp user list --role=administrator, diffed against a baseline). Also watch for unexpected plugin activations in your audit-log plugin.
- Web access logs: Watch for unauthenticated POST bursts to the batch endpoint. SPL example:
Detection rules
No NEOSEC detection rule is available for this vulnerability yet.
Classification under NIS2 and CRA
Rule-based classification from exploitation status and severity. It does not replace a case-by-case assessment.
NIS2
NIS2 is EU Directive (EU) 2022/2555 to raise the level of cybersecurity across the Union. It substantially broadens obligations compared with the first NIS directive: more sectors, mandatory risk management, staged reporting duties and personal accountability of senior management.
Read in glossary- Actively exploited: treat the vulnerability as a priority in vulnerability handling under Art. 21(2)(e) NIS2. If it is exploited in your environment, check the reporting obligation under Art. 23 (early warning within 24 hours).
CRA
The CRA is EU Regulation (EU) 2024/2847 setting horizontal cybersecurity requirements for „products with digital elements“ — from industrial controllers and software to connected consumer devices. For the first time manufacturers must ensure security across the entire product lifecycle, handle vulnerabilities and provide security updates.
Read in glossary- Since 11.09.2026, manufacturers of affected products with digital elements must report actively exploited vulnerabilities under Art. 14 CRA, with an early warning within 24 hours via ENISA's single reporting platform.
ISO/IEC 27001
ISO/IEC 27001 is the internationally leading standard for an information security management system (ISMS). It describes a risk-based, process-oriented framework to systematically plan, implement, review and improve information security.
